Dancing in the Rain — Angelina and Con at Athol Hall, Sydney

Some couples plan a wedding. Angelina and Con planned two. What their guests didn't know when they arrived at Athol Hall was that Angelina and Con had already been quietly, secretly married for an entire year. The reveal mid-ceremony sent gasps and cheers through the room, and set the tone for a day that was full of joy, personality and zero pretence.

The inspo was Hamptons meets fine-china garden party, blues, whites, and a relaxed elegance that felt entirely them. Athol Hall was the perfect backdrop for it, and the floristry from Frank and Bloom brought the whole vision to life.

Then came the rain. Not a light shower, 142 millimetres in a single day. Enough to derail even the most carefully laid plans. But Angelina and Con had already decided how they were going to handle it. As Angelina put it, you can dance in the rain or sulk in the rain, and it rains regardless. So they danced.

What they didn't mention is that when there wasn't a single ray of sunshine to be found, we made our own. The team set up man-made golden hour in the middle of a downpour, braved the conditions with all the gear, and got every shot they had ever dreamed of. Con summed it up better than I could: "On a day where there was not a single ray of sunshine to be seen, him and his team created man made golden hour and braved the torrential rain with all their equipment to make sure we got the shots we had always dreamed of."

That moment, the two of them completely in it together, is one of my favourite things I've ever captured. A reminder that the best weddings aren't the ones where everything goes to plan. They're the ones where the couple is so solid, so genuinely happy to be with each other, that nothing else really matters.

Angelina and Con, this is now the third time I've had the privilege of photographing you both, and I hope there are a million more to come. Thank you for having me in your corner.
